Are You a Top Gun Fan? Get a Taste of Movie History While You Still Can in Oceanside!

Oceanside has everything you’d want for a Southern California vacation, from the Oceanside Pier to miles of beautiful beach, especially when you stay at Southern California Beach Club, located just steps from the sand. However, if you’re looking for more than beach city vibes and consider yourself a maverick while on vacation we suggest taking the short 5 minute stroll from Southern California Beach Club to see one of Oceanside’s proudest landmarks, the Top Gun House!

Top Gun House

The hit action film, Top Gun, starring Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer, was filmed in 1986 at multiple San Diego county locations, most notably a home located on Pacific Street in Oceanside. Other San Diego filming locations include Kansas City Barbecue in Downtown San Diego and The New Point Loma Light House near Cabrillo National Monument.

Top Gun has become such a favorite part of San Diego’s history that it even won the San Diego Union Tribune’s poll over the movie Anchorman as ‘Best Movie Ever Filmed in San Diego’.

The Top Gun House is part of Oceanside’s history for more reasons than its movie notoriety but also because of its architecture and site. The Queen Anne Victorian home was built by Dr. Henry Graves in 1887 and is the only home left on its original ocean front location.

In the film the home is where female love interest, Charlie (actress, Kelly McGillis) lived and where Maverick (Tom Cruise) visits her.

The historical landmark recently received a fresh coat of paint to be closer to the original color of the home in the famous film and is adorned with signage memorializing the location. The home does still require a little tender love and care due to its old age, but there are plans for the home to undergo a facelift!

A developer has bought the lot the house currently sits on and has plans to build a luxury hotel, but don’t worry! The developer intends to renovate the famous movie home. This will require the Top Gun House to be moved temporarily before being placed back on the lot as a fun sightseeing piece to the grounds once the hotel is complete.

So, now’s the perfect time to plan your Southern California vacation before the Top Gun home is moved for renovations. Book your stay at Southern California Beach Club to be steps away from movie history while you can! Simply book online or call (877) 351-3854.
